Symptoms Of Candida Overgrowth - Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Symptoms Of Candida Overgrowth

In an article, "Fibromyalgia - An Emerging But Controversial Condition," Don L. Goldenberg, M.D., of the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, described the symptoms, laboratory findings and treatment results of 118 patients with fibromyalgia. Here are excerpts from his article:

Fibromyalgia is one of the most common diagnoses in ambulatory practice. Recent estimates of the instance of fibromyalgia in the United States have ranged from 3 to 6 million ... Common symptoms noted in our series and other recent reports have included neck and shoulder pain, morning stiffness, sleep disturbances and fatigue.

Yeast Overgrowth Symptoms

If you are tired, so tired and add the "sick all over" complaint to the laundry list of your health problems, it's likely you've been from doctor to doctor with no real help and probably one or more of those doctors has suggested, "It's all in your head."

It may be in your head, but it's probably also in your reproductive tract, your digestive tract, your joints and muscles, and just about everywhere in your body.

Chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and hypothyroidism, disorders that have received a great deal of attention in recent years, are each typified by a huge list of symptoms for which there are few real remedies.

How To Treat Candida - Real Story

How To Treat Candida

Over the span of my medical and writing career, I have received thousands of moving letters from women suffering from depression. Only within the past several years have I begun to receive reports from women with yeast-related bipolar disorder, in which the affected individual experiences powerful mood swings that range from "very elevated" mood (mania) to deep depression.

I think the story below, told by a New Zealand woman I call Martha, is especially heartrending:

In the years since Dr. Crook's death, there have been new discoveries as well as interesting new theories about the connection between yeast and depression. Of the more than 180 toxic byproducts of candida yeast that have been identified, two, alcohol and acetaldehyde, are known to be particularly harmful. Measurable levels of alcohol and acetaldehyde in the blood have been found in some patients with severe overgrowth.

When acetaldehyde reacts with the brain-chemical dopamine, it can cause feelings of anxiety, depression, poor concentration and a sense of being "spaced-out."

Symptoms Of Candida Yeast Overgrowth

Approximately 19 million Americans suffer from clinical depression, and two-thirds of them are women. Nearly 15 years ago, when I decided to review the records of 100 of my patients with yeast-related conditions, I was surprised at the results: depression, fatigue and headache were the most common complaints. What's more, 85% of these patients were women and most of them were between the ages of 30 and 45.

I had listened to these patients. I knew that the multiple health problems typical of people with candidiasis could become overwhelming, but those numbers gave me enough of a jolt to deepen my search for the link between depression and Candida albicans.

Yeast Infections How To Treat

Migraines are characterized by throbbing head pain, Usually located on one side of the head, often accompanied by nausea and light and sound sensitivity.

There are many theories about the causes of migraines, but many sufferers say attacks can be triggered by certain types of food (including aged cheeses, chocolate and red wine), changes in climate, emotions, medications and hormones. The hormonal component may help explain why women are more prone to headaches and migraines, since they are subject to more hormonal swings than men.

Yeast Health Problems - Headaches

Yeast Health Problems

More than 45 million Americans have chronic, recurring headaches, and 62% of these are chronic migraine sufferers, according to the National Headache Foundation.

Both sexes are affected, but women bear the brunt of headaches, particularly migraines, suffering from them three times as often as men. There are two major types of headaches:
  • Tension-type: These include 90% of all headaches, characterized by tightening of the muscles in the neck and back of the head, where the pain usually occurs.
  • Vascular headaches: These are believed to be caused by an interaction between blood vessels and nerves in the brain covering. This category includes migraines and cluster headaches.

WHAT CAUSES VULVODYNIA?

There are a number of theories about the cause of vulvodynia. Among those listed by the National Vulvodynia Association:
  • an injury to, or irritation of, the nerves surrounding the vulva
  • an abnormal response of different cells in the vulva to environmental factors (such as infection or trauma)
  • genetic factors associated with susceptibility to chronic vestibular inflammation
  • a localized hypersensitivity to candida (yeast)
  • spasms of the muscles that support the pelvic organs
Others, myself included, believe many cases, perhaps one-third or more, of vulvodynia can be one symptom of a systemic yeast overgrowth.

You may never have heard the term vulvodynia, but many of you recognize the symptoms: burning pain, stabbing pain, itching, stinging and irritation around the vulva, often accompanied by a white cheesy discharge. One patient described her external genitalia as "bright red," and another said it "feels like it's on fire."

The pain can come suddenly, seemingly from nowhere. It may be constant or intermittent. It may take place only during sexual intercourse. For some women, it is more pronounced near their time of their menstrual periods.

Frequently, the area around the vagina shows no redness or swelling or infection, in spite of these intense symptoms. The pain can involve the entire area, including the rectal or anal skin and may include hypersensitivity around the small labia, making it difficult to walk. Other women may experience discomfort when their pubic hair is touched, making it difficult for them to wear underwear. Occasionally women also experience a painful or hypersensitive clitoris.

How To Know If You Have Yeast Infection

How To Know If You Have Yeast Infection

There are many causes of endometriosis and other women's health problems that I discuss in this blog. Yet, based on reports I've received from physicians and other professionals, and from women who have written me, a treatment program for endometriosis should sharply restrict sugar. It should also include:
  • a wide variety of nutritious foods
  • prescription and nonprescription antifungal agents
  • nutritional supplements
  • the control or avoidance of chemical pollutants and molds in homes and workplaces
A comprehensive anti-candida treatment program can play a part in helping many women with endometriosis and other disorders regain their health and their lives.

Sometimes, in fact, many times, dedicated, caring, persistent people can advance the frontiers of medicine more than physicians and other "experts." Mary Lou Ballweg, who co-founded the Endometriosis Association (EA) with Carolyn Keith in 1980, is one of those people. Herself a victim of what she calls "this painful, chronic and stubborn disease," Ballweg has devoted her tireless efforts to informing women and health care professionals about endometriosis and offering support to the millions of women who are suffering from the disease.

"Endometriosis is a disease affecting an estimated 5 million women in the U.S. and millions more worldwide. It is a nightmare of misinformation, myths, taboos, lack of diagnosis and problematic hit-and-miss treatments overlaid on a painful, chronic, stubborn disease," says Ballweg, who serves as the Association's president.

Overgrowth Of Candida Symptoms

Endometriosis is a painful chronic condition that affects 5.5 million women in North America. It occurs when tissue similar to the endometrium, or the lining of the uterus, is found in locations outside the uterus. It may be found on ovaries, the outside of the uterus, the bowel, bladder, the ligaments that hold the bladder in place or the peritoneum (the lining of the pelvis and abdominal cavity). In rare cases, it can be found in far distant sites, such as scar tissue on an arm or leg.

The misplaced tissue develops into growths that respond to the menstrual cycle the same way the tissue of the lining of the uterus does. Each month, the tissue builds up and sheds. While menstrual blood flows out of the body from the uterus through the cervix and vagina, the endometriosis tissue and cells it sheds have no way of leaving the body, so they can cause inflammation, scar tissue formation, adhesions and bowel problems.

Natural Cure For Yeast Infection - Natural Medicine

Natural Cure For Yeast Infection

During the mid and late 1990s, I became increasingly interested in natural medicine. I read a number of books about nonprescription remedies people could use for common complaints.

During the past two decades, I have attended many regional and national health food conventions and been a guest speaker at many of them. On several occasions at these conventions, I've visited with Dr. Michael Murray, N.D., one of the world's leading authorities on natural medicine. He's a graduate, faculty member and member of the Board of Trustees of Bastyr University in Seattle.

What Is A Yeast Infection And What Causes It - Recurrent Vaginitis

What Is A Yeast Infection And What Causes It

Here's why I think so many women are troubled by recurrent vaginal yeast infections:
  • Candida yeasts thrive in a dark, warm, moist environment. The vagina and the intestinal tract serve as ideal places for these yeasts to live and multiply - especially when other factors encourage their growth.
  • Broad-spectrum antibiotics. These drugs are often prescribed for children with ear infections and respiratory problems, teenagers with acne and women with cystitis, even for people with colds and flu, against which they have no effect. Many of these antibiotics are prescribed needlessly. While eradicating bacterial "enemies," they also knock out bacterial "friends," including Lactobacillus acidophilus and other naturally occurring friendly bacteria. They do nothing whatsoever to kill viruses that cause colds and flu. As a result, the usually benign Candida albicans multiplies and causes infection. Antibiotic-laden chickens and antibiotics in other animal products we eat also disturb the normal balance of bacteria in the intestinal tract.

What Causes An Yeast Infection In Women

In the past 10 years or so, an area of women's anatomy rarely mentioned in public has become front-page news: the vagina.

A major factor in prompting this publicity was the decision by the medical establishment powers that be to allow women to purchase anti-yeast vaginal suppositories over the counter. Unless you're blind, deaf, dumb and never turn on your TV or look at a magazine, you can't have escaped advertisements touting Monistat 7, Gyne-Lotrimin and other anti-yeast vaginal suppositories for yeast infections.

PHYSICIANS' COMMENTS

Richard Mabray, M.D., a Victoria, Texas, board-certified gynecologist, tells me he has had good results with progesterone, given as intra-muscular shots and sublingual (under the tongue) drops.

Other doctors give women sublingual drops as needed their menstrual cycles and increase the amount they take during the days when they most frequently experience PMS symptoms.
