Treating A Yeast Infection - Joyce's Story

Treating A Yeast Infection

In August 1992, this 35-year-old woman called me and said,

I've had severe myasthenia gravis for over 20 years and I have been troubled by many other symptoms. I recently obtained a copy of your book, The Yeast Solution, and began to change my diet. I'm already improving. I'm off all MG medication and gaining back my strength.

Joyce also told me she'd taken large amounts of antibiotics, and that she had been troubled by recurrent vaginal yeast infections in childhood and early adolescence. At age 13, she began to show symptoms that led to the diagnosis of MG. Her symptoms at that time included: completely nasal voice - air came out of her nose instead of her mouth when she spoke; she was unable to swallow and had to wash down food with liquid. Joyce had no control of the muscles in her face. She was unable to smile, and her eyes remained open when sleeping - she was uncoordinated and troubled by double vision, migraine headaches and stomachaches.

During the past 10 years, I've exchanged many letters and e-mails with Joyce, and her story is truly remarkable. She has regained her health and her life.

Like many people with yeast-connected problems, she's had her ups and downs and had to do things differently. During 2001 and 2002, she found that taking Diflucan helped her more than nystatin. She still follows her diet, which features a variety of foods, including vegetables, chicken, fish and seeds.

MY COMMENTS

Are all autoimmune diseases yeast-related? I don't really think so. Yet, the observations of Dr. Truss and those of other physicians suggest that many of them are, and that a comprehensive treatment program that includes an appropriate diet, probiotics and an antifungal medication can help many people.

Reducing exposure to chemicals is the recommendation of neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock, who reminds us that the body will not attack a healthy self, but only a toxic or unhealthy self.

Joyce's story illustrates many points relevant to the person with a chronic health disorder, including those which are yeast-related. Here are a few of her points that I would like to emphasize:

  • Although many chronic health disorders are yeast-related, antifungal medications alone do not provide a "quick fix" or a long-term answer.
  • An appropriate diet is essential for any woman who wishes to regain her life and health.
  • Faith in God, courage, persistence and determination are key ingredients in any treatment program.
